Quick Takes | 5 Film Reviews | Vol. 3

Hello, long time no post! Apologies -- I cannot believe this is my first blog post of 2026. The reason there's been a quiet spell on here is because I’ve been busy moving and getting settled into a new area, which has been exciting. But I should be more active on here from now on :) I hope 2026 has been treating you well so far (can you believe it's April next week?!).
I thought I would share a "Quick Takes" post for my first post of 2026. Without further ado, here's five film reviews:
The Housemaid (2025)
The Housemaid is a psychological thriller that follows Millie, a young woman who becomes a live-in maid for a wealthy couple. However, the "perfect" couple are hiding some dark secrets and things are not as they seem. I saw this movie at the cinema and found it very gripping due to the unexpected plot that keeps you guessing. The acting was also very good -- Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried deliver great, believable performances. A very enjoyable watch for thriller fans.
Rating: 4/5 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
The Rip (2026)
In The Rip, a group of Miami cops discover millions of dollars in cash, leading to outsiders learning about the seizure. Trust begins to break down between the officers. The film has strong tension and build up, and the mystery of trying to figure out which officers are trustworthy and which are corrupt keeps it interesting and suspenseful. The film also features an excellent cast including Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. A good crime-thriller worth watching.
Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 💫
Another Simple Favour (2025)
The sequel to A Simple Favor (2018), Another Simple Favour follows mummy blogger, Stephanie (played by Anna Kendrick), as she reunites with the glamorous Emily Nelson (played by Blake Lively) on the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily's luxurious wedding. However, when murders and betrayals occur, Stephanie is framed, uncovering dark secrets and a deceptive scheme. With its twists and turns and chaotic plot, this dark comedy thriller is a good watch.
Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 💫
Ballerina (From the World of John Wick) (2025)
Ballerina follows Eve Macarro (played by Ana de Armas), trained in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma, she takes on numerous killers as she seeks revenge against those responsible for the death of her father. The film features striking cinematography, creative fight scenes, and as to be expected with its revenge-driven plot, is highly action-packed. Whether your a fan of the John Wick universe or just enjoy an action-thriller, this film will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Rating: 4/5 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Sinners (2025)
In Sinners, twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, return to their Mississippi hometown to start again, only to find a supernatural evil waiting for them. The film blends supernatural horror, vampire mythology, blues music, and southern culture. The plot is unique, original and grabs your attention from start to finish. It also features a great cast, with strong characters and relationships, but Michael B. Jordan’s dual performance steals the show. A one-of-a-kind film that is a must-watch!
